Leadership Development Committee

The Leadership Development Committee makes recommendations to the board and the congregation for position openings on the

  • Leadership Development Committee
  • Endowment Committee
  • Committee on Ministry

Nominations are made for each church year beginning July 1. These recommendations are coordinated with the Board of Directors and with the Senior Minister. The church membership votes on the recommendations for the Board of Directors, the Leadership Development Committee and the Endowment Committee at the Church’s Annual meeting. The Board acts independently on the recommendations for the Committee on Ministry.

The Leadership Development Committee actively solicits recommendations from the church membership for position openings and for Volunteer Chalice Award recipients through direct outreach to the membership, articles in the church newsletter, a suggestion table in the church lobby, etc. Please forward any names for consideration to nominations@richmonduu.org.  Include the nominees name and the position you are nominating them for.

Board officers are elected for 1-year terms and members-at-large are elected for 3-year terms. An individual may serve on the Board for a maximum of five (5) consecutive years. An individual may serve as an officer in any one elected position for a maximum of three (3) consecutive years. An individual who has served five (5) years on the Board my return after an absence of one (1) year.

The Leadership Development Committee consists of six (6) church members plus a liaison from the Board of Directors. The Leadership Development Committee members serve three-year terms, with two members rotating off each year. The chair is selected by the committee.

The Endowment Committee consists of no less than five (5) church members, serving 3 year terms. Members who are rotating off my be re-elected to new 3-year terms. A member cannot serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.”

The COM consists of six (6) church members, serving 3 year terms with two members rotating off each year. Members who are rotating off may be re-elected for new 3-year terms.

Ian M. Finlayson Service Award (formerly the Volunteer Chalice Award)

The Leadership Development Committee also selects the recipients of the Ian M. Finlayson Service Award. The award was established in 2002 and renamed the Ian M. Finlayson Service Award. It is given quarterly in recognition of exemplary service to the church community. Any member or pledging friend who has belonged to the church for at least one year, including youth members, is eligible to receive the award. Sitting directors, officers and staff are not eligible for this award. The committee keeps recipient records. Recipients’ biographical information is forwarded to the church archivist and to the church newsletter.
