The Nursery will be open 9:45-12:45 to greet those three years old and under. They will be welcomed with open arms and engaged in gentle play. A snack of Cheerios will be available, however, if there are allergy concerns, please provide your own.

Religious Education Classes, 10:00 a.m.

Pre-K: Story: Martin Luther King, Jr.. Students will be exposed to the boyhood experiences of M.L.King, Jr., and how they influenced his choices as an adult.

Gr. 1-5: Story: Seven Spools of Thread. The African story of how seven brothers were challenged by their father to cease arguing and instead, work together.

Gr. 8-9 (11:15-12:45): Our Whole Lives, Human Sexuality: Lesson: Sexuality, Social Media, and the Internet.

Gr. 10-12: Topic: How can we manage conflict and resolve it constructively?

Witnessing for Marriage Equality

What are you doing on Valentine’s Day?

On Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 14th, you are invited to join Rev. Jeanne Pupke, her partner Regina Largent and a half-dozen other same sex couples, as they go down to the John Marshall Court House building to apply for a marriage license. Since same sex marriage isn’t legal in Virginia the clerk of the city court accepts the applications (although not official) and files them. We ask that you come to stand witness to this discrimination against our same sex brothers and sisters.

This year there are two transportation options. The LGBTQ-Straight Alliance will be coordinating a carpool from FirstUU downtown to the Court House. If you want to carpool, please be at FirstUU no later than 11:15am. Our ETA back to FirstUU is between 1:00 and 1:15pm. Alternately you can drive yourself downtown and park on the street (bring your quarters) or in one of the adjacent pay parking lots.

It is not a lot of time for you to invest and it is so important for us to continue to bear witness for Marriage Equality until that equality is finally achieved.

Elite? Are we? Join Rev. Jeanne is this engaging two session class! Using the text written by Unitarian Universalist Mark Hariss, we will discuss the issue of whether our heritage relies too much on intellect, not enough on emotion and whether our faith preserves a perspective of privilege rather than common humanity. (Text available in church bookstore.) Mondays, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, 6:30-8:00 pm. No fee.
